![]() I had an evil Druid with a Staff of the Woodlands separate the party in half with a wall of thorns in a cavern. Any terrain feature or crowd control spell intended to split the party gets thrown out the window. If you don’t get value out of Dimension Door, your DM isn’t giving you many problems with interesting terrain.ĭimension Door has regularly broken my encounters. It takes some slick convincing of the target and you'll need flight/ feather fall if you want to survive, but the option exists. Lastly, if you have the right combo of other tricks up your sleeve, you can teleport a creature straight up and give them a 500 foot pile driver. Alternately, you can set up a flank and cut off escapes. Even if you teleport away on an open plain, you've put a few rounds of distance between you and your enemies. It's also worth noting that moving 500 feet + speed is pretty fast. If a door slams in your face and you're trapped, dim door will let you escape back from where you came or possibly around the trap altogether. ![]() One thing dimension door has that those other spells doesn't is that it can let you move through solid walls. ![]() Carrying capacity can help you do more with the spell and force resistance helps when mishaps happen. The spell also works well with high carrying capacities as well as a Brooch of Shielding. What subclass are you playing? Spells may work better with some features than others. Getting your melee units onto that dragon/airship/difficult to reach sniper position, walking up to your friend who's stuck in a grapple and just getting both of you out of there, getting an unconscious person out without leaving a trail of where you've gone. The fact that you can bring someone with you is super valuable. Stuff everyone into a bag of holding, dimension door in, let them all out. One dimension door brought me and my monk friend over to him, who proceeded to stun our target.Īnother time we wanted to get into this big room with no human sized entrances (which our druid could see due to some sort of ghostly sight ability from an item), but we were in a complex filled with these mechanical spiders and didn't know how hostile they were and didn't want to risk getting attention. Out in the open, that was quite a dangerous prospect as we didn't have any long distance archers and would basically be mowed down before we could get close to him (running away was an option, but it was established he would basically keep summoning demons at us every hour until we were worn down to death). He of course started blasting me immediately, but my contingency activated, which let me dimension door away after the first hit.Īnother example, we were fighting a warlock with eldritch spear, who had summoned a demon at us and was continuing to blast us from long distance. One dimension door got me over there, one object interaction to stuff the book in my bag of holding. The room was wide, but the book was not in the wraith's hands at the moment, but on a table a few feet from him, which was quite far from the door we entered. Me and my party found the secret lab of a super charged arch wraith lich thing, who controlled an entire cities worth of undead with a special book (and we had seen him basically summon a death knight as an action using that book). Especially since you don't need line of sight, unlike misty step (swallowed whole? Can't misty step out). ![]() Being able to teleport moderate distances is such a problem solver. ![]()
